Quarry

This box is inspired by photographs of a quarry in Vermont. I find quarries interesting because, like step wells, they are a type of inverted architecture, but they have an organic, almost unplanned feel to them. The quarry in this box is made of unfinished eucalyptus wood and has a pool of colored glass. Like most quarries it is strewn with rubble. A large section of the top lifts off to reveal a large asymmetrical compartment. The body of the box is mahogany and measures 6" high by 16" long by 12" deep.
